For the sixth year, Mountain Vineyard Christian Fellowship hosted an outdoor Christmas party – this time in three inches of snow – at Green River Gorge Resort, an RV/trailer campground near Black Diamond."
The site is home to about 55 men, 25 women and 15 children, many living “in extremely run-down, poor conditions,” said Karen Evans, a spokeswoman for the Covington-area church.
Evans said church members provided a hot lunch and gifts for the campground residents last weekend “to demonstrate God’s love in a practical way” and to “give to those who can’t give back to us.”
The festivities were staged in a large tent erected by church volunteers

Live music, a barbecue and games were part of Mountain Vineyard Christian Fellowship’s Community Backyard Block Party and Festival last Saturday.
The free, six-hour event on the church’s soccer field included family-oriented activities such as a mechanical bull and inflatable toys. Among the stage performers were Richard Thomas, a former professional and Kentwood High School football player.
The Covington church also had a serious purpose behind the fun, as participants were asked to donate school supplies for underprivileged children in the community. The supplies will go to the Covington Storehouse Food Bank to help support a back-to-school drive for backpacks and free haircuts.
